About the Project

In fall of 2015, record rainfalls hit the Pacific Northwest causing many construction sites to flood with turbid stormwater runoff. Clear Creek Systems, Inc. responded to an emergency call at a construction project located in University Place, WA. The project’s 3 million gallon stormwater retention vault was reaching capacity and onsite stormwater treatment was needed to reduce turbidity and pH prior to discharge to an adjacent stream.

Clear Creek provided a 300 gallon-per-minute chitosan enhanced sand filtration (CESF) system with an expedited installation over a weekend. The CESF system was utilized to treat nearly 25,000,000 gallons of construction stormwater runoff with 100% compliance with the project’s construction stormwater permit. The CESF effluent was typically less than 5 NTU with a neutral pH.
